On Friday, authorities in Wisconsin reported that nine individuals lost their lives after a tractor-trailer crashed into a van at a junction on a state highway.
The mishap, which occurred at 7:53 a.m. in Dewhurst Township, approximately 45 miles southeast of Eau Claire, was reported by the Clark County Sheriff's Office. The sole survivor of the incident was a person in the van, according to the statement.
According to the sheriff's office, the collision happened when a tractor-trailer traveling east on Highway 95 collided with a van traveling north on crossing County Road J.
According to the office, eight out of nine individuals in the van, including the tractor-trailer's driver, perished in the crash. At the scene, they were all declared dead. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of all those involved, as well as the first responders who worked quickly to provide support at the scene," added Evers.
According to a statement released by the sheriff's office, the sole survivor of the van was sent to a medical facility for treatment. No one was informed about their condition.
The sheriff's office stated that the names of the deceased would not be revealed until next of kin were notified on Wednesday night.
Both vehicles were severely damaged, according to video footage from the site and aerial footage.
The semi-truck and its cargo lay in a ditch beside the highway, partially twisted, with the van on its side and the front end of the vehicle severely damaged.
